Julie Gribble completes her Tampa Bay stop on her "Letting Go Tour".

TAMPA BAY: National recording & touring artist, award winning singer/songwriter, and motion picture actress, Julie Gribble, made several appearances here in the Tampa Bay area this weekend. Julie’s 4 day stop over in the Tampa Bay area was part of her nation-wide "Letting Go Tour" to promote her latest album "Letting Go". This also marked Julie’s first time visiting the Tampa Bay area as well.

Julie’s first stop in Tampa Bay was on this past Thursday, January 27th when she performed live at the Banana Boat Too in Clearwater. The show was presented by Sarasota Promoter Mario Vitali, Bay Area Band Source, and the St. Petersburg Live Music Bar Scene column.

The 3 hour long show started at 9:00pm, following "Magic Mike" who was the opening act. After "Magic Mike" introduced me up onto the stage, I then had the extreme honor of getting to introduce Julie onto the stage myself. The turn-out for the show was a decent sized one, considering it was on a Thursday night, and had very little promotion due to time restraints. Among the crowd that showed up to see Julie perform that evening were several Bay area musicians and personalities, including: Jeremy Strait & Eileen Hensler of Decepcion, Chad Henderson formerly of Rebel 5, Dina Mead of Bay Area Band Source, and Sarasota promoter Mario vitali. Tampa Bay music photographer, Paul Marsik, also attended the show to take some pictures.

For 3 amazing sets, Julie performed her Americana style music at the popular Clearwater bar...her voice sounding just as amazing live and in person as it does on her studio albums. Julie, along with the help of her supporting band consisting of guitarist Tony Wilson & drummer Sean Bennett, performed much of her catalog including three of my favorite songs of hers, "It’s About Love", "The Old Way." & "More". Along with her originals, Julie also played some cover songs as well. Among the cover songs she performed that evening was an amazing version and unique arrangement of the Black Crowes hit song "She Talks To Angels". Julie truely showed off her talent and ability that evening. She has a very melodic and soothing singing voice. Once you hear her, it is easy to tell which artists have influenced her when it comes to singing. yet at the same time, she has a very unique voice all to her self. When it comes to sustaining a note, her voice is amazingly steady and strong...powerfull, yet not overbearing. This becomes even more evident once she starts to climb into a higher octive. Without a doubt, Julie Gribble is a near perfect example of why I favor female vocalists over male vocalists. Julie is an amazing and talented singer, and she more then showcased that at her performance on Thursday.

Right before the beginning of her 3rd and final set of the evening, I once again got up on stage to present Julie with a bouquet of flowers along with an autographed St. Petersburg Live Music Bar Scene column plaque, thanking her for the interview she gave to me a week earlier, and for choosing Tampa Bay as one of her stops on her nation-wide, "Letting Go Tour".

After Julie’s performance at the Banana Boat Too on Thursday, Julie headed further South to Holmes Beach for a performance at Mary Ann’s Hair Saloon....that's right, I said Hair SALOON! On Friday, January 28th. That same evening, Julie then traveled to Sarasota where she headlined the Sarasota regionals of the "Battle For America" band competition at the Pastimes Pub.

Saturday morning, January 29th, Julie headed to the WMNF 88.5 fm studios in Tampa for an 8:30am live guest appearance on the "Florida Folk Show" where she performed her two songs, "It's About Love" & "Dolly's Words and Tammy's tears", live in the studio. After her on-air appearance on WMNF, Julie headed back to Holmes Beach for her second performance at Mary Ann’s Hair Saloon.

On Sunday morning, January 30th, it was back to Tampa where Julie stopped at the WFTS studios for an 8:30am live appearance on the ABC Action News program, delivering a brief on-air interview and performance.

With the Tampa Bay leg of her tour now over, Julie and her band now heads up to her home state of Georgia for performances in both the cities of Columbus & Atlanta.

I would once again like to publicly thank Julie and her band for choosing Tampa Bay as one of her stops on her tour. As I told Julie and her band privately at her Banana Boat Too show, Julie is probably the most humble, down-to-earth, ego-less musician that I have ever met in my 20 years of working (on & off) in both the local & National music scene. As a matter of fact, I have experienced local musicians that have had bigger egos then Julie has.

One of the great things about following independent

music is celebrating the success of the artists who

reach incredible goals on a more personal level.

There is that possibility that you attended one of

their first shows, or bought their album before they

were signed. You may have even dropped a

comment on their page to let them know how much

you’ve enjoyed their music.

Then suddenly, out of nowhere… just before you are

about to retire for the night, you turn on the late

show, and there they are, rocking on stage in front

of a massive audience and stage full of lights and

cameras!

Julie Gribble is one of those artists. And yes, you might have even seen

her on a number of TV shows. She recently performed the title song

from her new CD, “Letting Go” on the Craig Ferguson show.

We’re really happy for Julie’s success and know that she has what it

takes to further her career to the top. Music Forte wanted to take this

opportunity to ask her some questions and avoid some of the red tape

that will surely come when pursuing managers and labels step into dot

the "I"'s and cross the "T"'s…

MF: Craig Ferguson once said that your waitress career went

horribly out of control and so here you are, now in the music

industry. There are so many aspiring musicians who work in

restaurants to help get by while they struggle to focus on music

full time. At what point did you decide, that’s enough?

Julie: Funny story, I actually met Craig while i was waiting tables. He

was a customer at a cafe i worked at in LA and him and his friends that

would come in were the coolest guys, so we all just would laugh and

well... I give my cd to everyone... more just to get their opinions... and

Craig is the most amazing person to give me a shot!!

I've had to wait tables on and off and actually I really do (enjoy) the

social aspect of it. Of course I would rather just be writing and playing

but working is good for anyone. Now i do alot more gigs and am able to

skate by n that.

MF: You write your own lyrics. Many artists today don’t do

that. Do you think you could sing and perform a song just as

well, if the lyrics were provided by someone else AND do you

have a favorite cover tune that you like to sing?

Julie: I think i could, but there's nothing like singing words that are

really coming from your heart, it's genuine and you become a part of

someone elses journey when they can relate with you in those

experiences. Cover songs... I play alot of them but I have to say my

favorite 2 are "Angel" from Montgomery and "Ring of Fire!"

MF: You have opened up for John Mayer, and several TV shows

feature your music and performances. When will mainstream

radio follow?

Julie: I'd looooove to get mainstream radio but honestly it's sooo hard! I

do everything myself, from booking to TV to writing to recording to

booking tours...publicity...

Radio costs so much to do it right and until I get a label or some sort of

backing it's just not really a possibility!

MF: What kinds of problems do you face at this point in your

career?

Julie: I think it would be getting to the next level and just always

working to be better stronger and stay focused.

MF: Are there any contrasts between your current professional

goals and personal goals?

Julie: I think there always are and will be, but that's the challenge. I

want a family someday but touring makes that reality very hard. I figure

when it comes I'll tackle it head on!

MF: What advice do you have for independent artists who are

Music Forte Blog | Julie Gribble - The Singer/Songwriter 11/2/10 1:25 AM

http://www.musicforte.com/article/julie-gribble-the-singer-songwriter/#comments Page 5 of 8

working hard to turn their passion into a career?

Julie: Keep playing keep playing and don't listen to the negativity!!!

Enjoy what you do, love your art and embrace your fans, answer every

email and remember most importantly to be GRATEFUL! You are your

best asset and your worst enemy, enjoy the ride and you'll be taken

where you're supposed to be if you work hard and stay genuine.

MF: How has your musical success impacted your family and

friends?

Julie: I have the most amazing family... They are at every show they can

be at. And I have the most amazing friends. They understand too when

a week later I call and say I'm so sorry it took me a week to get back,

they know how much i love them!! Family comes first always, before

anything else though.

Title - 'Echoes In My Head'
Artist - Julie Gribble
It must come extremely naturally to Ms. Gribble all this singer-songwriting stuff for this new album is yet another fine example of inspired lyrics combined with an alternative rock twist. Most all the songs on this CD grab you instantly in some form or another. Whether it be the opening chords of 'The Feeling' or the early Indigo Girls-sounding 'The Old Way,' you can feel your spirit being musically enveloped as each track passes on by. In fact just closing your eyes and allowing the music to sweep across you, you can picture Ms. Gribble with her guitar in hand and a smile on her face. The ballads are insightful, the overall musicianship a rare treat, each storytelling accompanied by a unique verbal styling. I guess Ms. Gribble could be termed as an Indie musician, but after one listen to this you'll wonder why she hasn't hit mainstream radio; or been lauded in the hearts of mainstream America. For, in much the same way as Natalie Merchant found more attention for her work, Ms. Gribble is definitely riding the same rails, destination Global Success.

Echoes You’ll Want to Hear in Your Head

Album Review: Julie Gribble, Echoes in My Head.
By Amalia Vagts

Los Angeles singer-songwriter Julie Gribble, whose acoustic rock sophomore album Echoes In My Head is reviewed in this article, will perform at T-Bock’s Sports Bar & Grill in Decorah, Iowa on Wednesday, April 18 at 8:00 pm. $3 cover charge.

It was Saturday afternoon at a beer garden in Indianapolis, and I was at a rowdy table waiting for Julie Gribble to start performing. It was my 11th show in twenty-four hours—smack in the middle of the 2005 Midwest Music Summit.

I had heard Julie for the first time the night before and called a bunch of friends to come listen to her. She started, and we could barely hear her over the crowd. I wandered toward the back of the room where I saw some other musicians hanging out.

“Do you know who is doing Julie’s sound?” I asked. “Don’t you think they should turn her up?” The three artists, all clearly much cooler than the usual bar crowd just looked at me.

Then one of them said, “I think Julie’s doing her own sound. But I definitely think she should turn it up.”

Gribble was on tour for her debut album, So Typical, which received strong reviews from critics for its powerful and engaging songs. I was drawn in by Gribble’s authentic lyrics, rich and strong voice, and the way she could fly her fingers over the guitar. I saw her perform three times that weekend.

Gribble’s fans have been eagerly awaiting her second album, Echoes in My Head, which includes eight more original tracks. Julie Gribble’s voice is once again the standout feature throughout the album. Reviews of this album have been extremely positive and critics seem to have the same reaction I’ve had to Julie’s music—it’s the album that you’ll keep reaching for (or scrolling to for you iPod users). You may draw connections to the likes of Lucy Kaplansky, Lucinda Williams, Natalie Merchant or the Indigo Girls, but in the end it’s all Julie Gribble with her very personal sound and lyrics.

One of my favorites from Echoes in My Head includes the addictive “The Old Way.” Gribble combines a classic sentimentality with the realities of modern romance and manages to capture a relationship experience that will surely resonate with one of your own.

Maybe I missed you too much on our off days;
Maybe I wished too many times that we’d be forever.
Maybe I never wanted to see this love end;
Just love me the old way.

You will not want to miss the opportunity of seeing Julie Gribble play live. She has a dynamic stage presence and rocks as good on stage as she sounds on the albums. Gribble’s infectious laugh and smile helps her truly engage with the crowd—by the second or third song you’ll feel like you are listening to an old friend who has finally made it big.
And that might be the secret of Julie Gribble’s appeal—she seeks out a relationship with fans and despite the need to work on her own career she is devoted to inspiring and assisting other emerging artists.
After listening to Julie Gribble you may wonder why she hasn’t been fully discovered, but she is surely on her way. Gribble's music has been featured on Lifetime movie "Dive at Clauson's Pier," popular Nickelodeon shows "Zoey 101," "Drake and Josh" and their TV movie "Drake & Josh Go to Hollywood," as well on "South of Nowhere" on Noggin. Guest appearances include, 2005 -The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson(CBS), The Tyra Banks Show(CBS),Queer Edge w/Jack E.Jett(QTN), 2006-Low Country Live(ABC),Your LA(NBC) 2007- The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson(CBS), Your LA(NBC), Good Day Atlanta(FOX5), and Daytime(NBC). She received the 2005 LA Music Award for Best Adult Alternative Artist, and has been featured in Music Connection Magazine's Hot 100 unsigned bands for both 2005 and 2006, as well as the Top 25 demo critiques,2006.
Julie Gribble’s albums, So Typical (2005) and Echoes in My Head (2007) are available at www.juliegribble.net. You can also buy them at her show at T-Bocks on Wednesday, April 18th at 8:00 pm.

I hear echoes.

I reviewed Gribble’s last album, ‘So Typical’ for this website back in 2005 and not only did I describe her as a “Posh Spice look-alike” but I summed the cd up as “a fine bunch of songs, a rich and melodic voice, a tight band and her own style, plus some excellent guitar riffs. But she doesn't have a record label. Eh? C'mon music moguls for christ's sake, get her signed. You're the ones missing out !”

It appears that she still doesn’t have a major record label, and again this is a mighty shame. ‘Echoes In My Head’ continues where ‘So Typical’ left off. There are echoes of that last album here, but that’s as far as it goes. More fine songs with rich melodies, hummable tunes, catchy choruses and some excellent lyrics. Americana in the truest sense of the word. Songs that can so easily translate into mainstream radio without losing any of the sense of worth that this genre offers. This isn’t pop pap, this is song-writing at its best with musicianship that provides a professionalism that some artists can never hope of achieving.

This isn’t a perfect album. But then again there aren’t many of those around are there. C’mon if you’re being honest you know it’s true. Some of the tracks are interchangeable and tend to blur into one another, but that isn’t the point. Hell no.

Gribble isn’t afraid of wearing her heart on her sleeve. “Damn me for letting you go, damn you for not letting me know” is the line that jumps out of ‘Damn Me’ and in one sentence it kinda sums up so many feelings and thoughts of regret and past loves and lives that we’ve all probably experienced at some stage. This is what Gribble is good at. She can capture the mood in such an easy and obvious way, but it’s not that easy is it? Of course it’s not. If it was we’d all be doing it wouldn’t we? That’s the mark of a good songwriter, making it all look and sound so easy without resorting to clichés and sentimental claptrap.

‘So Complicated’ again outlines the intricacies and feelings we navigate when we’re in a relationship. “It’s such a shame it all has to be so complicated”, how true is that? There she goes again, making the obvious so simple. There aren’t many writers who can condense complex emotions and feelings into one line.

She’s obviously a woman who has been hurt in the past (haven’t we all?) but this has given her writing an edge that determines reality and the way life really is. Tough sometimes. If only life was a Hollywood love story, with happy endings and running off into the sunset. But that isn’t reality. Whereas the songs on this cd are.

The soft roll of the snare drum starts the enticing beat as the high hat catches the rhythm and the symbols echo softly in the background. She starts in on her electric guitar - smooth with just a little kick. "But if you stand too long, refuse to fall a few times you're gonna lose out. You're gonna lose out on this." Her voice makes you relax, and the lyrics make you think a little introspectively on the world at large.

Since, like many of you, I hadn't heard of Julie Gribble, I sat down and Googled her to prepare for my interview. That was easy - www.juliegribble.net. I looked at some of the photos, read some of the comments, and browsed through some of the song titles. Intriguing titles, I thought, I will have to ask her about those-"So Typical." "Simple Grace." "Little Secret." "Hard to Say." "Can't Let Go." Boy, that's my life just spelled out in the titles, I thought. And then I clicked on "Just Stay Here," but I couldn't stay there-I had to click on "Little Bit Lonely." Thirty minutes later, with not a question written on my page, I had listened to every music clipping and read every word on the entire website. I was hooked - a groupie of sorts. No, a groupie defined - a Julie Gribble groupie. This girl was amazing! I may not wear the t-shirt (because I wouldn't want to be that obvious, would I?), but I definitely want to own every CD she ever makes.

So I sit down for the interview, now nervous because I am so in awe of this fascinating character. She is incredibly laid back - dressed in jeans and t-shirt, hair a little disheveled, no makeup…
Unsigned or otherwise, Julie Gribble is on the fast-track to stardom. Move over Sheryl Crow! With music so warm and touching it envelopes you in its beat, she's on our radar! Make sure you log on and listen to a few clips on www.juliegribble.net. You won't regret it!

In my humble opinion our Miss Gribble shines brightest on a song nestled about mid way through the album titled "Damn Me". She has Lucinda Williams' qualities but she's not a carbon copy if you know what I mean. Singer /songwriter style songs from a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice. Favorite track: I think I mentioned this before, "Damn Me".

"If I accidentally walked into hell, and she was performing there, I'd beg to stay!"
Here are the facts

CD Titled “Echoes in my head"

I really had trouble getting through the entire CD. I kept rewinding and playing the
tracks several times over. The CD starts with This Feeling" and it will grab you
like a uniquely fashioned comforter, that grasp the contours of your minds and hold
you there..

“The Old Way” (first track on the cd) reminds me of early indigo girls. Need I say
more... this song rocks and the hand claps are cool.

I can hear influences vocal styling like Natalie Merchant, Indigo Girls, The
percussions throughout this CD are like early John Cougar Melloncamp..

The overall writing is crisp. The ballads are insightful!. The musicianship is
quality.

Do you remember the old Pringles ad campaign... "you can't eat just one.. Well you
just can't listen to one song on this CD.. it's just keeps getting better with each
track... Trust me.. check out "Just Jane"

“Echoes in my Head” is a follow up to "So Typical.” This is an awesome piece of work
also.

This CD feels like a brand new car, so don't just stand back and look at it..

Open the doors; get inside and go for a nice ride.....Oh and turn up the
sounds....Julie is playing on the DVD system.

Julie Gribble is a singer/songwriter originally from Atlanta, but who nowadays hails more from the L.A. area. I met Julie at my workplace, Muzak LLC, down in Fort Mill, SC where she was brought in to play a couple songs and hobnob with the home office. The first thing you'll notice about Julie is her dynamic stage presence... she's cool as a cucumber under the lights, and her personality really shines as she flashes her infectious smile and interacts with the crowd. Next thing that catches you is the dynamic presence of her vocals; she's got a beautiful set of pipes that can swing from a growl to a howl to a coo, all in the same phrase. Finally you'll get wrapped up in her lyrics, as she spins her fantastic tales with a unique verbal styling and a melodic gift that will leave you humming her songs long after she leaves the stage. She's graced the set of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (to rave reviews), her music has been featured in both television and film, and she's won numerous awards across the nation. But perhaps best of all about Julie (to me at least) is that she's a great person with a fantastic personality. Make sure you introduce yourself to her if you have the chance, she's an 'ultra indie' musician who's blazed her own path through hard work and passion, and with her philosophy of 'no gig is too small' she shows how heart can translate to success in the difficult music industry!
In speaking of her CD, "So Typical", Tabitha Blevins of the Goose Creek Gazette stated, "The First track "Little Bit Lonely" is the kind of song that transcends generations allowing both mothers and daughters to understand and appreciate its meaning..."

a great way to wind down the week and also keep things in perceptive. She was excellent!"

On first listen one might think Julie Gribble was just another one of the myriad of artists on the acoustic underground writing their own music, releasing their own albums and quietly gaining an anonymous following, but there's a special quality here that gives Julie a lift over those artist who picked up a guitar and thought they could perform. With some performers who just happen to have their own guitar, engaging the listener by the ear AND the heart is simply an unknown dynamic. Not so with Julie, and she'll tell her audience that. "Hold on..., " she'll tell a room full of delighted people, "I've really got to feel the song to perform it." And she's right, in fact such an attitude would help serve many a young acoustic guitarist to connect with an audience in ways they can't begin to fathom. Julie DOES connect with you. There's no way you're going to listen to her sing and perform for you and yet walk away from it without having been engaged in her performance process. A large part of this is her incredible heartfelt and variant voice. She can be deep and mournful in one song and playful and naughty with a wink in her eye in the next and yet both are hugely convincing.
Since we're on the subject, she really CAN sing. I've felt for some time that an there are some famous artists who often perform better on other artists albums because of limited self vision, but Julie has no such problem. She knows what she can do to entertain you, and succeeds royally.
The other dynamic you'll really love is the originally creative song writing. She purposefully steers away from predictable verse and chorus and places just the right word or words in just the right spots to keep things interesting. She's quite the pro at this. Of course, Dan Lavery has writing credit here and I'd like to also give him his props... also for the production. It's one of those compilations of talent and timing that has produced an independent classic. The whole team that worked on this album should be congratulated, they have all correctly understood the vision and pulled it off winningly.
I highly recommend the deep and moody "Just Stay Here" if you like catchy heartfelt songs in minor keys with some innovative construction that hits the target. "Simple Grace" is more the poetry song but has a nice touch with a base string line. "Bartender Please" is a great drinking song and "Little Bit Lonely", and "So Obvious" are great mid-tempo rockers. Well, I could go on and on, but the album is a real find by an artist who is gonna break out nationally at any time, and from there the sky is the only limit. Get YOUR COPY today!!!!

Julie Gribble “So Typical” (Independent 2005) Posh Spice lookalike Gribble has released her second album and manages to sound like Natalie Merchant, kind of, but with her distinct sound too. The overall tone of the album is alternative driving acoustic rock with feminine nuances. 'Little Bit Lonely' is a good opener because of its strong electric guitar presence and melodies. 'So Typical' gets a little bluesy with more edge and some more strong electric guitar. 'Hard to Say" floats you upwards; think Amy Fairchild but in a higher pitch. 'Little secret' - Sheryl Crow is that you? However despite all the comparisons (which few musicians appreciate or like) Gribble is a talented singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia with her own unique sound. Some of her songs have already appeared on Nickelodeon, but she definitely ain't for kids. So that’s a strange thing to have on your CV, but of course all exposure is good. The thing that amazes me? She's got a fine bunch of songs, a rich and melodic voice, a tight band and her own style, plus some excellent guitar riffs. But she doesn't have a record label. Eh? C'mon music moguls for christ's sake, get her signed. You're the ones missing out !

“Do you believe in white lies to save a tear / Bold moves to make it clear?” are the opening words in “Simple Grace,” a song that showcases Julie Gribble’s vocal abilities in a subtle exchange of real emotional contact. Her music is lyric-driven and smooth, with sultry melodies. Fans and industry alike are calling her music real and captivating. For this album, Gribble worked with producer Dan Lavery of the Grammy-nominated band Tonic. In May 2005, they
independently released her second record, So Typical.
There’s more than meets the eyes to Gribble. Not just a typical
beautiful songstress, she has the natural ability to provoke a
reaction from within, helping the listener reflect on his or her
past adventures through a dreamily journey. Gribble is sexy
and emotional. Her sense for storytelling offers raw emotion
and, most importantly, appeals to various demographics.
Gribble’s astonishing achievement comes without a shortage
of energy and suspense. The music keeps you wanting more,
reeling you in to the narrative cycle she has created. Her lyrics
stand out, with words taken dearly from her heart. Gribble’s
knack for writing seems natural and free of restraint.
