Julie Gribble: Press/Radio

It's clear why Gribble has had high-profile TV placements off her full-length CD, So Close. "Hard To Say" has been placed in a Lifetime network movie. Her well-produced, bitterweet songs are put across with a moodiness that (on "Little Bit Lonely") recalls Natalie Merchant and (on "Simple Grace") Beth Orton. That song in particular has a nice bit of finesse in the production that makes this attractive artist's overall mournfulness seductive.
"Back Inside of Me" is strong and focused female singer/songwriter acoustic pop rock. Jules (AKA Julie Gribble) has a tremendous voice that brings to mind Natalie Merchant and Jayne Sachs with moments where, strangely, I thought of Poe. For a first album, this is a great. I highly anticipate her next release.

Anything but "Typical", I would have to say, Julie's new CD ..the music ... the words ... the structure and the patience .. Listening to it though my IPOD allows for almost an live; intimate experience. Bartender please... has become a favorite... with lots more ... there... listening to Julie's music is like standing in the shade on a bright sunny day..... wait...applause!!
Musical guest Julie Gribble sang "Little Bit Lonely", a beautiful song that was perfectly in tune with tonight's show. Clear, potent lyrics combined with a captivating melody.

This was a fitting end to an interesting day. Thank you, Craig, for always hitting the right note.

ribble - So Typical

This independently released album is a fine introduction to the talents of singer/songwriter Julie Gribble and clocks in at 10 solidly written tracks. Fans and industry alike are calling Julie's music 'real' and 'captivating' and her knack for storytelling is said to offer raw emotion and most importantly, in a way that relates to her audience, whatever the age. An unknown hailing from the LA underground, Atomicduster had the opportunity of auditioning Julie's album 'So Typical' and drew the following conclusions;

T: You know how Barry White's albums used to be referred to as "Music to make luuurve to"? Well, I feel a bit like that with Julie Gribble's stuff; it's got a very sexy, laid back alt.country feel to it and sounds like the musical equivalent of Viagra. She seems to stand apart from any other female singer/songwriter counterparts and bears little resemblance to any of them. In fact, given the pleasingly intelligent lyrics and big, seering choruses after dramatic build ups, I think the closest comparison I could make would be that of Tori Amos with a guitar instead of a piano. Great stuff.

N: There always seemed something that set this apart the first time I played any of this album; not tired, like a Sheryl Crow album might have become, and not just too young like Avril Lavigne might appear. I do like your reference to Tori Amos with a guitar. Although I can't find the same weight in the lyrics, musically this is quite exquisite. 9/10

Julie Gribble: So Typical
Although her music is getting lots of airplay on Nickelodeon, it's not really for kids. The topics are mature, the songwriting thoughtful and the sound is refined. Her voice sounds a little like Natalie Merchant, and the tone is alternative rock with a feminine flair. "Little Bit Lonely" is a good opener because of its strong electric guitar presence and melodies. By "So Typical" she gets a little bluesy with edge, and "Hard to Say" comes back with a flowing, uplifting sound. Think Amy Fairchild with a higher-pitched voice.

Gribble sounds as though she’s been doing this for decades. A very polished and talented singer-songwriter from Atlanta, Georgia whose armed with a voice that’s rich and convincing. She’s truly a force to be reckoned with. Her backing band is right on the mark as well with their brand of hard driving acoustic rock. They compliment each other completely and that pushes her songs to a whole new level. I think Miss Gribble is going to do just fine in this business.
Julie sheds the normal and average encasings of pop-rock with her innovative and raw approach to songwriting. As singer/songwriters go, she’s among some of the freshest. Hailing from L.A., she has to stand out from the plethora of other struggling artists. She does this with her captivating vocals, which sing of terrific tales that she pens from experiences she’s had throughout her young life. “So Typical” is a great peek inside one of Los Angeles’ most intriguing female singer/songwriters.
It's Fabulous!!
Julie Gribble is a talented singer- songwriter. Her backing band is strong. Her vocals are rich and reveal pain, loss, and loneliness while they remain uplifting. There is innocence to her writing that allows for a diverse following to appreciate her work.
Michael Potvin - Northeast In-Tune Magazine (Aug 23, 2005)
"In the John Mellencamp school of country-rock, this latest self-released album from LA songstress Julie Gribble is a collection of powerful, in-yer-face recordings. The quality of the recording is nothing short of remarkable, with a tight band and a convincing mix supporting Ms. Gribble’s fine voice. As a means of enticing major label interest, So Typical should serve Ms. Gribble well."
"Gribble is a work of art, both musically and lyrically, and a true unknown treasure of the LA underground."
"An obviously gifted guitarist, Gribble mixed styles with ease, flowing from one genre to another."
